Twirling group "The Starlights"

Traditionally, every self-respecting fanfare and drumband should be accompanied by a team of "majorettes" when marching out on the streets. Kempenbloei's first majorette team was formed in 1980 and was then known as the 'Black and White Girls'. 4 years later, the majorettes were reformed to a 'twirling team' and the twirling batton made its entrance. For this occasion, the team changed its name to Twirling Team "The Starlights".
The twirling team of Kempenbloei has been a succes ever since. Currently, the team counts 65 members, aging from 4 to 30 years old, and divided over 5 groups (according to age). Rehearsels take place almost daily in the band room and in the communal sports hall.

Besides marching the street with the fanfere and drumband at occasions like Carnaval and other village festivities, the Starlights also regularly compete in regional and national twirling contests. And with succes: In 2003, group three of the Starlights (11-13 year old) won no less than three contests, including the Belgian national championships (youth section).
The highlight for the Starlights however is the gala show that is organised every two years. In 2000, the thema of the show was the musical "The wizard of Oz", while in 2002 the fairy tale of "Snow White" was depicted. The most recent gala show, in 2004, told the well known story of "Annie", about the little orphan girl and her dog.
